Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Company: Precision Cables
Location: American Fork, UT (On-site)
Position Type: Full-Time
About Precision Cables
At Precision Cables, we don't just connect wires; we engineer the critical lifelines for advanced technology. We are a premier manufacturer of high-performance, custom cable assemblies and wire harnesses for demanding industries, including aerospace, medical, defense, and industrial automation. We pride ourselves on absolute quality, exact tolerances, and continuous innovation.
We are seeking a data-driven, hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to optimize our production processes, design robust tooling, and help scale our manufacturing capabilities.
Position Overview
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will bridge the gap between product design and production reality. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes to maximize efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure our cable assemblies meet rigorous quality standards. The ideal candidate thrives on the shop floor, loves solving complex mechanical puzzles, and is passionate about lean manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Optimization: Design, implement, and maintain efficient manufacturing processes, work instructions, and routing for complex cable assemblies and wire harnesses.
- Tooling & Fixturing: Design custom fixtures, assembly jigs, and specialized tooling (using CAD) to improve production ergonomics, safety, and throughput.
- Continuous Improvement (Lean/Six Sigma): Lead kaizen events, root-cause analysis, and floor layout optimizations to eliminate waste, reduce setup times, and improve cycle times.
- Equipment & Automation: Evaluate, select, and integrate automated manufacturing equipment (e.g., automated stripping, crimping, and testing machinery). Program and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
- NPI (New Product Introduction): Collaborate with Design Engineering to review prototypes for Manufacturability (DFM) and ensure a seamless transition from engineering to the production floor.
- Quality & Compliance: Troubleshoot production defects and drive first-pass yield improvements. Develops and maintains test documentation/fixtures. Prior Experience with Dynalab is a plus.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Experience: Experience with wire harness fabrication, cable extrusion, overmolding, or electronics assembly is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Deep understanding of crimp force monitoring, soldering standards (IPC-A-620 certification is a major plus), and electrical continuity/hipot testing.
- Experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Value Stream Mapping, Kanban).
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and a collaborative mindset to work effectively with assembly technicians and management alike.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision).
- Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays.
- Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning in a growing company.
How to Apply
If you are a builder, an optimizer, and someone who takes pride in seeing their engineering solutions active on the production floor every day, we want to hear from you.
