This paid apprenticeship offers small group hands-on experience working alongside seasoned technicians at the shop and hands-on training in the field to develop essential skills in HVAC systems, refrigeration, and mechanical maintenance. You will learn and perform equipment repairs—all while gaining valuable field service expertise. Duties
- Assist in Installations: Help install high-efficiency HVAC equipment, including heat pumps, ductless mini-splits
- Supported repair tasks on air handlers, heat pumps, and boilers to improve system performance
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning coils, replacing filters, and checking refrigerant levels to maximize system efficiency
- Troubleshooting: Assist technicians in using diagnostic tools (multimeters, manifold gauges) to identify electrical or mechanical faults.
- Site Preparation: Load tools, transport materials, and prepare work areas for installation and service jobs.
- Safety Compliance: Follow EPA guidelines for handling refrigerants and adhere to safety standards (OSHA)
A universal EPA certification is required within 2 months of employment. No classroom training is required for this certification, and we’ll help you learn what you need to complete this certification.
Qualifications
- Strong interest or background in construction, mechanical systems
- Prior experience as a service technician or in a related field is a plus but not required; training will be provided.
- Mechanical knowledge related to HVAC
- Ability to operate tools safely and effectively.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assist in troubleshooting complex mechanical or electrical issues.
