Job Description:
This position is responsible for acquiring, managing, and stewarding surface and subsurface rights throughout the asset life cycle. The role focuses on company-owned minerals and royalties, requiring extensive work with title research, courthouse documentation, and ownership verification. The position involves developing and negotiating commercial agreements, managing contracts, and providing strategic guidance on complex land and acquisition opportunities while maintaining key external relationships with government officials, landowners, and partners.
Responsibilities:
- Acquire and obtain access/lease, steward, monetize and/or divest surface and/or subsurface rights to deliver/protect value and mitigate risk across the asset life cycle
- Review internal company records and utilize online courthouse documents to confirm ownership and status of company-owned interests by depth (minerals, royalties, and overrides)
- Review all wells producing from interests, research production history and producing depths/formations with attention to "held-by" status of company-granted agreements (leases, farmouts, overriding royalty reservations)
- Perform NRI calculation confirmation
- Develop, negotiate and execute new commercial agreements (e.g., leases and right-of-ways), obtaining all functional alignment as required
- Analyze, manage and steward contracts as needed (e.g., acreage and risk management, and compliance)
- Develop, prioritize and recommend commercial concepts/structures for the acquisition and/or monetization of business opportunities for new and existing assets
- Acquire, trade, monetize or divest asset rights to deliver value
- Manage and sustain external relationships relevant to portfolio (e.g., government officials, land owners, service providers and partners)
- Provide guidance to support development and execution of business strategies/plans
- Negotiate and manage claim/dispute mitigation and resolution
- Coordinate and/or determine land ownership, evaluate risks, and cure title defects
- Manage and coordinate contract personnel (field & in-house)
- Provide litigation support
Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience with title, court house, alignment sheets, easement and acquisition documents
- Proficient in commercial negotiation, influence, internal and external relationship management
- Competent with Quorum Land and Enverus products (Drilling Info, Enverus Courthouse, and EnergyLink)
- Permian Basin experience strongly preferred
