Position Overview:
Eldreth Law Firm is seeking an experienced and highly organized Estate Administration Paralegal to join our growing North Carolina law firm. The ideal candidate will have experience handling estate administration matters and be comfortable managing multiple files, communicating with clients and fiduciaries, and working closely with attorneys to move estates efficiently from opening through closing.
Responsibilities
· Assist attorneys with the administration of estates in North Carolina
· Prepare and file documents with the North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court
· Assist with opening and closing estate proceedings
· Prepare inventories, accountings, affidavits, petitions, notices, and other estate documents
· Track estate assets, liabilities, deadlines, and distributions
· Communicate with executors, administrators, beneficiaries, financial institutions, creditors, and other professionals
· Obtain and organize financial records, account statements, valuations, and other documentation
· Assist with creditor claims and creditor notices
· Coordinate with the North Carolina Department of Revenue regarding estate tax and other required filings
· Assist with preparation and filing of federal and state estate tax-related documents as needed
· Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical files
· Monitor deadlines and follow up on outstanding matters
· Draft correspondence and communicate professionally with clients and third parties
· Assist attorneys with real estate, business interests, and other assets involved in estate administration
· Provide general administrative and paralegal support to the firm’s estate planning and administration practice
Qualifications
· Prior experience as an estate administration/probate paralegal is strongly preferred
· Knowledge of North Carolina probate and estate administration procedures
· Familiarity with filings and procedures involving the North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
· Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously
· Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned files
· Professional and compassionate demeanor when working with clients who may be dealing with the loss of a loved one
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
· Strong computer and document-management skills
· Experience with legal practice-management software is a plus
· Notary Public certification is a plus
