Primary Responsibilities:
- Security and Supervision: Supervise, care for, and control inmates within a correctional institution or facility.
- Safety and Order: Maintain security to prevent disturbances, assaults, and escapes.
- Rule Enforcement: Enforce rules and regulations to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Inmate Monitoring: Monitor inmate activities, work assignments, and interactions.
- Contraband Search: Conduct searches for contraband, such as weapons or drugs.
- Incident Response: Respond to and resolve inmate disputes or confrontations.
- Report Writing: Document incidents, observations, and disciplinary actions.
Qualifications:
- Age: At least 18 years old
- Citizenship: United States citizen
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license
- Background: No felony convictions or dishonorable discharge from the military
- Physical Fitness: Ability to pass a medical exam and drug test
Training: (PAID)
- Academy: Successful completion of a state-certified correctional officer academy
- This Academy is typically held at Gulf C.I. Monday- Friday 6:00 am- 3:30 pm. While attending this academy you will be paid $22/ hr. After completion of academy and passing your state board, your pay will go up to $23.14/ hr.
- Ongoing Training: Regular in-service training on security procedures, inmate management, and other relevant topics
