About the Role
We are seeking a dependable, safety-focused, and experienced Distribution Associate / Forklift Operator to join our Houston warehouse and distribution team.
This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced distribution environment responsible for supporting day-to-day warehouse operations, including order fulfillment, picking and packing, shipping and receiving, inventory handling, product replenishment, and material movement throughout the facility.
Strong hands-on forklift experience is important for this position. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience operating multiple types of warehouse equipment, including:
- Sit-down forklifts
- Stand-up forklifts
- Reach trucks / reach forklifts
- Articulated or narrow-aisle forklifts such as Bendi, Flexi, Combilift, Aisle-Master, or comparable equipment
The ideal candidate has solid experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced warehouse or distribution center, understands how to operate powered industrial equipment safely around people, inventory, racking, and other equipment, and takes personal responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment.
Previous experience training, coaching, or assisting other warehouse associates on safe forklift or material-handling equipment operation is a strong plus.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Accurately pick, pack, label, stage, and prepare customer orders for shipment.
- Safely operate sit-down, stand-up, reach, articulated/narrow-aisle forklifts, and other material-handling equipment as required.
- Safely move, retrieve, store, replenish, and stage inventory throughout the distribution center.
- Retrieve pallets and products from warehouse racking using appropriate material-handling equipment.
- Safely maneuver forklifts around warehouse racking, narrow aisles, staging areas, employees, pallets, and other powered equipment.
- Load and unload incoming and outgoing freight.
- Put away received merchandise in designated warehouse and racking locations.
- Palletize, stage, wrap, and transport products throughout the warehouse.
- Support daily shipping and receiving activities, including verifying quantities and identifying discrepancies.
- Maintain inventory accuracy and ensure products are stored in appropriate locations.
- Assist with cycle counts, physical inventory, stock organization, and inventory-control activities.
- Perform required equipment inspections and immediately report equipment or safety concerns.
- Follow established forklift operating procedures, warehouse safety standards, and company policies at all times.
- Maintain awareness of pedestrians, equipment traffic, rack clearances, load stability, and surrounding conditions while operating equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with warehouse standards.
- Work with a sense of urgency while maintaining safe and accurate work practices in a fast-paced distribution environment.
- Work collaboratively with warehouse and distribution team members to meet daily shipping, fulfillment, and productivity goals.
- Assist in other areas of fulfillment, shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations as business needs require.
- Perform additional warehouse duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced warehouse, distribution center, fulfillment center, or similar operation.
- Strong hands-on forklift operating experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
- Experience operating sit-down forklifts, stand-up forklifts, and/or reach trucks.
- Experience retrieving and putting away pallets in warehouse racking.
- Demonstrated ability to safely maneuver powered material-handling equipment around warehouse aisles, racking, inventory, pedestrians, and other equipment.
- Experience with order picking, material movement, pallet handling, shipping, receiving, or inventory-related functions.
- Strong understanding of warehouse and forklift safety practices.
- Ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment without compromising safety or accuracy.
- Strong and stable work history with demonstrated reliability and consistent attendance.
- Ability to understand and communicate in English as needed for safety instructions, equipment operation, documentation, and team communication.
- Ability to follow warehouse procedures, safety requirements, and established operational processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Forklift Experience
- Candidates should have hands-on operating experience in a warehouse or distribution environment; certification alone without relevant operating experience may not meet the requirements of this position.
- Experience operating multiple types of equipment—particularly sit-down, stand-up, and reach equipment—is preferred.
- Articulated or narrow-aisle forklift experience, including Bendi, Flexi, Combilift, Aisle-Master, or comparable equipment, is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of warehouse, distribution, or fulfillment experience.
- 5+ years of regular forklift operating experience.
- Experience operating multiple types of powered industrial equipment, including sit-down, stand-up, and reach forklifts.
- Direct experience operating Bendi, Flexi, Combilift, Aisle-Master, or similar articulated/narrow-aisle equipment - Preferred
- Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced distribution environment.
- Previous experience training, coaching, or helping onboard associates on forklifts, powered industrial equipment, or warehouse equipment.
- Strong knowledge of safe forklift operation and warehouse safety practices.
- Experience working with pallet racking and narrow-aisle warehouse configurations.
- Shipping and receiving experience.
- Inventory control and cycle-counting experience.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems, scanners, or inventory software.
- Knowledge of OSHA and warehouse safety requirements.
- Familiarity with Lean warehouse practices and 5S methodology.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position requires regular physical activity in an active, fast-paced warehouse and distribution environment.
Candidates must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive warehouse tasks.
- Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull products weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Safely operate sit-down, stand-up, reach, and other material-handling equipment for portions of the workday.
- Work safely around warehouse racking, pallets, freight, forklifts, pedestrians, and other powered industrial equipment.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and follow established safety procedures at all times.
- Climb stairs or ladders and work at heights of up to approximately 8 feet when necessary.
- Maintain productivity and accuracy while working in a fast-paced distribution environment.
- Work occasional overtime during peak business periods.
