About Your Role
The Senior Accountant is responsible for leading the month-end close process, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies. This role oversees key accounting functions including project accounting, ASC 606 revenue recognition, sales and use tax compliance, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting expertise, experience in project-based environments, ERP proficiency, and the ability to collaborate across departments while mentoring team members and enhancing accounting processes and controls.
What You’ll Do (Job Responsibilities)
General Accounting
● Lead and oversee the preparation and review of journal entries.
● Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliation processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
● Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts and resolve variances.
● Own and manage month-end and year-end close activities.
● Oversee the maintenance of supporting schedules and accounting documentation.
● Review financial transactions and financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and U.S. GAAP.
● Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting team members.
Revenue Recognition & Contract Accounting
● Support revenue recognition processes in accordance with ASC 606.
● Review and reconcile billed versus recognized revenue.
● Maintain and review revenue recognition documentation and audit support files.
Accounts Payable & Procurement Support
● Oversee Accounts Payable operations and month-end accrual processes.
● Review and approve significant accruals and related accounting entries.
● Provide oversight of vendor onboarding processes and supporting documentation.
Sales & Use Tax Compliance
● Manage multi-state sales and use tax compliance activities.
● Oversee maintenance of exemption certificate documentation.
● Coordinate and review sales and use tax filings.
Financial Reporting
● Prepare monthly financial reports, account analyses, and reporting packages.
● Support the annual budget and periodic forecast preparation.
● Perform detailed variance analysis and present findings and recommendations to management.
Audit Support
● Lead audit preparation efforts and coordinate requests from external auditors.
● Prepare and review audit schedules and supporting documentation.
● Maintain organized accounting records and ensure audit readiness.
● Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls.
Process Improvement
● Lead initiatives to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency.
● Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
● Identify opportunities to scale accounting operations in support of company growth.
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done:
● Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (required).
● CPA or CPA candidate (preferred).
● 5 - 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
● Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
● Demonstrated experience owning month-end close and financial reporting processes.
● Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
● Significant ERP experience, with NetSuite preferred.
● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
● Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience partnering across departments and influencing business decisions.
● Experience mentoring, training, or supervising accounting staff preferred.
● Preferred: Experience in project-based, construction, engineering, manufacturing, industrial services, or EPC environments.
● Preferred: Experience with ASC 606 revenue recognition.
● Preferred: Multi-state sales and use tax compliance experience.
● Preferred: Experience with project accounting, revenue recognition, and process automation initiatives.
