An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Constellation Design & Simulation to lead the architecture and performance modelling of a next-generation Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation.
This is a highly influential technical leadership position, acting as the authority for constellation architecture, orbital design, link performance and interference analysis. Working at the forefront of satellite communications, you will define the constellation design that underpins future spacecraft procurement, regulatory activities, network performance and commercial capacity planning.
Key Responsibilities
As the technical authority for constellation design, you will:
- Lead the development and maintenance of the overall constellation architecture and design baseline.
- Define and freeze constellation geometry to support downstream spacecraft procurement and programme execution.
- Develop and validate end-to-end link budgets across both Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) and Fixed Satellite Services (FSS), considering environmental effects including rain fade and Doppler.
- Perform coverage analysis and network performance simulations to optimise service availability and capacity.
- Conduct interference and compatibility studies, including Equivalent Power Flux Density (EPFD) modelling to support regulatory compliance.
- Produce technical documentation supporting regulatory filings, constellation deployment planning and launch strategy.
- Develop long-term capacity modelling and network growth strategies.
- Collaborate with systems engineering, payload, RF, regulatory and commercial teams to optimise overall network performance.
- Provide technical leadership for constellation design activities throughout the programme lifecycle.
Required Experience
- 12+ years' experience in LEO and/or MEO satellite constellation design.
- Extensive hands-on experience using tools such as STK, GMAT, FreeFlyer or equivalent orbital analysis and simulation software.
- Proven experience developing and closing satellite communications link budgets across MSS and/or FSS systems.
- Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, constellation optimisation and satellite network performance modelling.
- Direct experience supporting ITU coordination activities, including EPFD analysis and interference studies.
- Experience producing technical documentation supporting satellite system design and regulatory submissions.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to multidisciplinary engineering teams and senior stakeholders.
- Postgraduate qualification in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or a related technical discipline.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) or next-generation satellite communications systems.
- Knowledge of S-band and/or Ka-band satellite communications.
- Technical publications or recognised expertise in orbital mechanics, interference analysis or satellite communications.
- Experience supporting large-scale commercial satellite constellation programmes.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in the development of a next-generation satellite constellation, influencing critical architectural decisions from programme inception through deployment. You will work alongside a highly experienced international engineering team, solving some of the most challenging problems in satellite communications while shaping the future of global connectivity.
