Salary Range: $20.56/ Hour - $29.61/ Hour
Position Summary:
To repair, assemble, service and maintain Craig Hospital's durable medical equipment. Assist with maintaining Craig Hospital's fleet of power and manual wheelchairs, including all manufacturers' demonstration wheelchairs held on consignment. On a priority basis, they are responsible for setting up designated Craig wheelchairs according to therapist requests for patients' daily use while completing their rehabilitation program and awaiting their personal prescribed wheelchairs.
Work closely with therapists to assist with DME and specialized equipment needs.
Position Requirements:
- Licensure/Certification/Registrations: None
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience: Experience in wheelchair equipment maintenance and repairs preferred. General mechanical and electronic experience
- Skills & Abilities: Basic mechanical and electronic skills. Safe handling of manual and power tools. Ability to lift 80 pounds. Ability to work well with your hands. Ability to read and understand instruction manuals. The ability to complete paperwork correctly and in a timely manner. Ability to work with limited supervision. Ability to prepare, assemble, service, and repair DME equipment in a safe and competent manner.
Essential Functions:
- Properly repair and service all wheelchairs assigned to the department.
- Set up all requested chairs according to therapist specifications.
- Ensure that equipment is clean and safe prior to patient use.
- Assist Senior Repair Techs with scheduled preventative maintenance on all wheelchairs and related equipment.
- Assist with the organization, cleaning and general maintenance of the wheelchair cage and its contents.
- Assist Senior Repair Techs in making routine adjustments to patients' equipment as requested by therapist work orders.
- Assist with servicing and maintaining all manufacturer-loaned “demo” durable medical equipment according to manufacturer's specifications.
- Keep the work area clean and follow the infection control policy while handling equipment.
- Review the daily work routine with Senior Repair Tech/Therapy Gyms/Clinic to ensure that all outstanding work orders and scheduled wheelchair maintenance are prioritized to best meet the needs of the patients.
- Complete and pass courses recommended by supervisor
- Provides services to patients and adapts the service as needed.
- Follows hospital infection control policies, including body substance isolation and proper hand hygiene before and after contact with patients, handling of food, and after hands are contaminated with any body fluids, secretions or excretions.
- Understands their responsibility to inform patients, family and visitors of the importance of hand hygiene in all environments.
