We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Greensboro, NC office is seeking a senior level Geotechnical Engineer to support our engineering group. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong growing team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage, execute, and provide technical support, in a team setting and on a variety of challenging geotechnical and interdisciplinary dams projects.
- Responsibilities may include planning and managing geotechnical and geologic field investigations, reviewing field investigation boring logs, evaluating instrumentation and monitoring data, assigning project-specific soil and rock laboratory testing, conducting engineering analyses and design specific to soil and rock mechanics, foundation design, fill placement/ground modification, embankment dam design, seepage evaluations, slope stability analyses, and seismic analyses.
- Preparation and review of geotechnical engineering reports, technical documents, design drawings, technical specifications, and presentations, for a variety of applications, projects, and clients.
- Communicate with clients and regulators, establish goals and objectives for project teams, and schedule and coordinate resources, to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the quality expectations of the client.
- Serve as a direct supervisor to oversee, develop, and mentor geotechnical engineering and geology staff.
- Participate in the development of a cohesive, positive culture for our Greensboro, NC area office and company-wide to cultivate a best-in-class environment that allows our people to realize their full potential.
- Contribute to maintaining and developing Schnabel’s strong brand in the geotechnical and water markets through thought leadership embodied in published papers, white papers, and participation at recognized conferences and workshops.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Licensed Professional Engineer and with the ability to obtain licensure by comity (e.g. NCEES record)
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering
- Willingness and ability to travel
- AutoCAD and GIS skills suitable for developing geotechnical deliverables
- Proficiency with geotechnical engineering software such as GeoStudio, Gint/OpenGround, Shoring Suite, STAAD Pro, LPILE, SHAFT, Settle3D, Leapfrog, RocScience, and AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar programs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment
- Confidence and independence, with a shared sense of responsibility
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (geotechnical focus).
- Senior project management experience for a variety of transportation projects
- Geo-structural engineering skills a plus

The compensation range for this position is between $115,000 to $140,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
