School Resource Officer (SRO)

The Campus Security Officer (CSO) serves as the primary safety and security professional for The GLOBE Academy's two campuses. The CSO is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment through proactive campus presence, traffic management, emergency response, incident prevention, and relationship building with students, staff, families, and community partners.
This is an unarmed security position. The Campus Security Officer will not carry or be authorized to carry a firearm while performing duties for The GLOBE Academy. The role focuses on prevention, visibility, de-escalation, emergency preparedness, and coordination with Dekalb County Schools-Department of Public Safety and first responders when a law enforcement response is required.
This position requires flexibility, as work hours may vary to support morning and afternoon traffic operations, school activities, athletic events, evening programs, emergency situations, and after-hours security concerns. The CSO will divide time between both campuses and serve as a key member of the school's safety and crisis response team.
Essential Functions:
Campus Safety and Security
● Conduct routine patrols of both campuses, including buildings, parking lots, playgrounds, athletic facilities, and surrounding grounds.
● Monitor and maintain campus safety through visible presence and proactive engagement.
● Respond to emergencies, safety concerns, suspicious activity, and security incidents.
● Assist with investigations involving safety, security, vandalism, theft, or other incidents occurring on school property.
● Ensure compliance with school safety procedures, emergency protocols, and visitor management requirements.
● Maintain detailed reports of incidents, safety concerns, and security-related activities.
Traffic Management and Crossing Guard Supervision
● Train crossing guards at both campuses along with the staff that helps with UC traffic.
● Ensure appropriate placement of signage, cones, barriers, and traffic control devices.
● Collaborate with local law enforcement and transportation officials as needed regarding traffic concerns.
● Perform traffic control at Lower Campus in morning and afternoon
Access Control and Surveillance
● Monitor electronic access control systems and campus security cameras.
● Review security footage as needed for investigations and incident response.
● Conduct regular inspections of doors, gates, locks, fencing, and security equipment.
● Report any security system maintenance and needed repairs to Director of Facilities,
Security and Transportation.
● Monitor alarm notifications and respond appropriately to security breaches or system failures
Student and Community Support
● Build positive relationships with students while serving as a trusted resource and mentor.
● Participate in safety education programs, drills, and student awareness initiatives.
● Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and mutual respect throughout the school community.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
● Serve as a member of the school's Emergency Response Team.
● Assist in conducting emergency drills, including lockdowns, evacuations, shelter-in-place, and reunification exercises.
● Maintain readiness for crisis situations.
Events and Athletic Coverage
● Provide security and crowd management for athletic events, performances, graduations, festivals, open houses, and other school-sponsored activities.
● Monitor visitor conduct and ensure compliance with school policies during events.
● Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, when school activities require security coverage.
After-Hours Responsibilities
● Be on-call for safety and security emergencies.
● Respond to alarm activations, security breaches, Coordinate with Jen Parker and emergency responders during after-hours events.
● Make recommendations to improve overall campus security and emergency preparedness.
Administrative Responsibilities
● Maintain accurate security records, reports, and documentation.
● Participate in safety committee meetings and professional development opportunities.
● Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
Qualifications:
Required
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Minimum of three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, school security, military service, emergency management, campus safety, or a related field.
● Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
● Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
● Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED operation, or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
Preferred
● Georgia POST certification or prior law enforcement experience.
● Experience working in a school, youth-serving organization, or educational setting.
● Experience managing traffic operations and supervising personnel.
● Training in crisis intervention, conflict de-escalation, and emergency response.
● Experience with security camera systems, access control systems, and emergency management software.

Physical Requirements
● Ability to patrol campuses on foot for extended periods.
● Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
● Ability to direct traffic and stand for extended periods during arrival and dismissal.
● Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
● Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and navigate campus environments safely.
Work Environment
This position requires work in classrooms, offices, parking lots, athletic facilities, playgrounds, and outdoor environments. The role involves exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic hazards, and emergency situations. Evening and weekend work is required as needed to support school events and security operations.
