Municipal Court Clerk

The City of McCaysville, Georgia is seeking a professional, organized, and detail-oriented individual to serve as Municipal Court Clerk. This position is responsible for performing administrative, clerical, and customer service duties in support of the City’s Municipal Court operations.
The Municipal Court Clerk serves as a key point of contact for the public, defendants, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and court officials. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively in a public service environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform clerical and administrative duties related to Municipal Court operations.
- Maintain court records, case files, citations, dockets, and related documentation.
- Process payments, fines, fees, and court-related transactions in accordance with City procedures.
- Assist the public, defendants, attorneys, and law enforcement personnel with court-related questions and information.
- Prepare court calendars, notices, correspondence, reports, and other documents.
- Enter and update case information in court management systems or related databases.
- Coordinate with judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and other court personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive records and information.
- Assist with court sessions, including preparing files and documenting court actions.
- Ensure records are maintained in compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to pass a pre-hire drug screen.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of office software.
- Ability to work professionally with the public, court officials, law enforcement, and City staff.
Training Requirements
- The Municipal Court Clerk must satisfactorily complete Municipal Court Clerk Training through the Georgia Municipal Court Clerks’ Council within the first year of employment.
- After completion of the initial training, the Municipal Court Clerk must attend required yearly training each year thereafter.
- Required training will be provided at the expense of the City of McCaysville.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in court administration, municipal government, clerical work, or customer service.
- Experience handling payments, records, or legal/court documents.
- Familiarity with municipal court procedures or court management software.

Work Environment
This position is generally performed in an office and courtroom setting. The employee may interact frequently with the public, defendants, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and other City personnel.
Employment Requirements
Employment with the City of McCaysville is contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment requirements, including a background check and pre-hire drug screen.
