Job Description: Licensed Practical Nurse
Reports to: Charge Nurse, Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Operations Administrator
Job Description Summary:
The Endoscopy LPN works collaboratively with the physician and the anesthesia health care providers to determine patient needs during Endoscopic procedures. The LPN performs delegated responsibilities using established procedures, policies, guidelines, and standards as observed by the Registered Nurse.
The Licensed Practical Nurse will:
· Facilitate quality patient care and assist professional and/or nursing staff in performing Endoscopy procedures when needed.
· Work to increase the department’s ability to effectively maintain the daily schedule along with safe and appropriate patient services.
· Possess appropriate personality characteristics to serve patients and families in a positive, professional, helpful manner.
· Possess the ability and means to travel to various locations including, but not limited to other sites.
· Assist with orientation and training of Endoscopy staff.
Performance Requirements:
1. Maintains standards described in the Policy and Procedure Manual to provide a safe, clean and orderly environment, including cleaning, disinfection and daily maintenance of endoscope equipment and procedure rooms.
2. Utilizes SGNA/APIC/CDC standards in the nursing process to ensure patient safety is maintained.
3. Uphold standards of Infection Control.
4. Assists with cleaning and preparing rooms between procedures, by cleaning beds, counters, light source cart, emptying suction canisters, and setting up appropriate equipment following Infection Control Policy.
5. Responsible for orderliness and cleanliness of Recovery Room and Consult rooms between cases.
6. Communicates with other members of the health care team regarding the patient’s condition as necessary.
7. Proficient and competent with the insertion of IV’s using Aseptic Technique.
8. Administers medications in accordance with physician’s orders.
9. Documents patient’s response to medications.
10. Identifies emergency situations and institutes corrective actions in a calm and efficient manner.
11. Demonstrate prioritization of patient care activities.
12. Knows the function(s) of the endoscopy equipment and instruments.
13. Assists with restocking of equipment and supplies in Endoscopy Unit as needed
14. Assists with laundry distribution and pick up.
15. Performs clerical duties and answering the phone as needed.
16. Assists with quality improvement activities related to equipment and environment.
17. Performs messenger and transport duties as necessary.
18. Maintains confidentiality of patients and records.
19. Attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
20. Is knowledgeable and supportive of the Ambulatory Surgical Center standards.
21. Demonstrates a working knowledge and role of all safety plans.
22. Participates in quarterly Fire and Disaster Drills.
23. Ensures age appropriate environment for patients served.
24. Maintains a well-groomed appropriate appearance.

25. Works well with supervisor and all others in positions of authority.
26. Maintains cooperative working relationship with all personnel.
27. Promotes a high degree of morale and spirit of motivation within the office. This includes the degree of cooperation, communication and coordination between themselves and other employees.
Attendance and Reliability
28. Does not abuse or take advantage of Personal Days Off.
29. Always provides proper notification and advance notice of absences.
30. Reports to work on time each day and after lunch and break periods.
Job Eligibility Requirements:
1. Current BLS certification or willing to obtain within one year of hire.
2. Holds the following certifications without restrictions:
· Current North Carolina LPN license
3. Language - Must be able to read and write English at high school level. Must communicate effectively. Must be able to read numbers and do basic math calculations.
4. Transportation – Must have transportation.
Pay: $23.00 - $32.00 per hour
