About the role
The Immigrant Family Advocate sits at the heart of the Marin Rapid Response Network (MRRN), a community-rooted network that responds when immigration enforcement disrupts the lives of our neighbors. You'll oversee the MRRN hotline and walk alongside families navigating detention, family separation, and the fear that comes with an uncertain system.
This is frontline work. It asks a lot — and it gives back the rare satisfaction of doing something that visibly, materially matters in your own community. You'll report to the Executive Director and work closely with MRRN leadership, volunteers, attorneys, and partner organizations across the county.
About the Multicultural Center of Marin
For years, the Multicultural Center of Marin (MCM) has stood with immigrant and low-income families in the Canal District of San Rafael and beyond. Our work spans five pillars — Community Resilience, Youth and Family, Media, Arts and Culture, and the Marin Rapid Response Network — but a single conviction runs through all of it: that every family deserves safety, dignity, and a community that shows up for them.
What you'll do
Review the hotline and lead the response. Monitor hotline activity and make sure no missed call goes unanswered for more than four hours, alerting volunteers to call back when needed. Bring a trauma-informed, culturally attuned presence to every caller. When someone has a critical, immediate need, you're the problem-solver — connecting people to resources, helping vet attorneys, and finding funding to make legal help possible. You'll take periodic on-call shifts, especially during peak enforcement periods, and coordinate emergency response with MRRN leadership.
Carry a caseload with care. Provide case management and advocacy to 4-6 families, offering regular check-ins, resource support, and translation and interpretation for the family. You'll keep confidential client records accurate and current and prepare thoughtful “warm handoffs” when a case moves to a partner agency.
Build the network. Deepen relationships with community members, partner organizations, and legal service providers. Represent MRRN at local meetings, trainings, and public presentations. Advocate for the benefits and policy changes that would make our families' lives more stable and secure.
Keep the data honest. Maintain accurate, up-to-date and secure records that support family advocacy and let us tell the true story of what's happening in our community.
Because the landscape shifts with enforcement priorities, this role will evolve. We'll update the work as the moment demands — and we'll do it together.
