PDI Ground Support Systems, a leading defense contractor in Solon Ohio, is seeking a Quality Assurance Inspector.
The Manufacturing Quality Inspector is responsible for performing detailed mechanical inspections, tests, and documentation to ensure that precision-machined parts, welded assemblies, and purchased components meet engineering drawings, customer specifications, and quality system requirements. This role supports production, engineering, and supply chain by providing accurate, timely inspection results and maintaining calibration and quality records and retention.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections and testing in an industrial manufacturing environment on precision-machined parts, welded assemblies, and purchased materials.
- Document inspection results clearly and accurately; communicate findings promptly and consistently to manufacturing, engineering, and purchasing as required.
- Conduct incoming receiving inspections, record results, and notify operations of any discrepancies or product issues.
- Maintain organized inspection data files, quality documentation, and records in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Maintain and support the calibration system, including scheduling, monitoring, and recording calibration status for gauges and measurement equipment.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Skilled in mechanical layout inspections for precision-machined components and large welded or fabricated assemblies.
- Experienced with handheld precision measurement tools, including micrometers, calipers, height stands, gauge blocks, and thread gauges.
- Experience using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect machined parts against engineering specifications.
- Strong ability to document and report inspection results to manufacturing, engineering, and purchasing.
- Preferred: Experience preparing AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Preferred: Experience setting up and operating mechanical test equipment for proof load and functional testing to engineering and customer specifications.
- Working knowledge of precision machining theory, metallurgy, nondestructive testing (NDT), welding, and coating processes including wet-paint applications.
- Preferred: Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and/or AS9100 quality management system requirements.
- Preferred: Experience calibrating handheld gauges such as micrometers, calipers, and height stands.
- Preferred: Experience maintaining and managing a calibration system.
- Preferred: Penetrate and Mag Particle NDI Certification.
