Assistant Professor - Photography
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Art and Design at Queensborough Community College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Photography. We seek an active artist and educator with strong, current expertise in both digital and darkroom-based photography and a creative practice centered in photography or lens-based media. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced darkroom and digital photography, digital imaging, and other courses across the Art and Design curriculum appropriate to their expertise and departmental needs. They should bring an understanding of the distinctive technical, material, and conceptual qualities of photography, the ways analog and digital processes can inform one another, and the ways photography can connect meaningfully with other artistic media, disciplines, and forms of inquiry.
The successful candidate will contribute collaboratively to the renewal and continued development of the photography curriculum, while also building connections across the broader Art and Design program. This work includes helping to shape flexible, contemporary instructional environments that support digital practice while maintaining meaningful access to darkroom-based processes and adapting to evolving curricular and artistic practices. Responsibilities also include rigorous, inclusive, and accessible teaching responsive to contemporary undergraduate students with varied levels of preparation; advising and mentoring students; contributing to curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, and committee service; and maintaining an active creative and/or scholarly practice appropriate to tenure and promotion.
Evening/weekend schedule may be required. Employment will begin in January 2027.
