A dynamic, entrepreneurial law firm providing high-quality legal services across multiple industries is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its Finance department. The Opportunity

The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in the day-to-day financial operations of the Firm, including billing, accounts payable/receivable, reporting and operational support.
Beyond technical accounting skills, the ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized and naturally takes ownership. This person should be comfortable identifying inefficiencies, creating structure where needed and helping improve systems and processes across the department. The role offers significant exposure to firm leadership and the opportunity to grow into a more senior operational or finance leadership position over time.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in billing, bookkeeping, accounting support or finance operations (law firm/professional services experience strongly preferred).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks; experience with legal billing systems strongly preferred.
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills, including comfort managing reports, reconciliations and spreadsheets.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter and reconcile payments received through bank accounts, electronic payment portals and lockboxes.
- Manage accounts payable transactions, including entering payments in QuickBooks and billing systems.
- Maintain accurate billing records, spreadsheets and financial reports.
- Run monthly billing processes and distribute invoices to attorneys and clients.
- Handle attorney and client requests regarding invoice edits, A/R reporting and billing questions.
- Manage the firm billing inbox and resolve client inquiries, including payment discrepancies.
- Assist with retainer agreements, new matter setup and retainer payment tracking.
- Support conflict check and new matter intake systems and ensure information remains current and organized.
- Manage attorney commission and collateral account tracking.
- Run recurring financial and operational reports and provide light analysis for leadership review.
- Assist with identifying, documenting and improving internal finance and billing processes.
- Support broader operational and administrative initiatives within the finance department as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $65,000-$75,000
