The New Mexico Board of Pharmacy regulates the pharmaceutical industry that includes licensing pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacist interns, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, public health clinics, drug research facilities, and boarding homes.

Why does the job exist?
State Drug Inspectors, as pharmacists and certified peace officers, protect, promote and preserve the public health, safety and welfare through administration and enforcement of board statutes and regulations to ensure the quality of drugs and related devices distributed, administered or dispensed in NM; support the competent practice of pharmacy and provision of patient care; and to decrease drug diversion.
How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of this job include:
- enforce the provisions of laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy
- conduct inspections throughout the state of facilities handling prescription drugs
- review license applications and work with applicants and licensees to support compliance with appropriate standards and requirements
- promote, support and enforce the competent practice of pharmacy and provision of patient care
- investigate complaints and engage in operations and initiatives with other state and federal regulatory and law enforcement agencies for drug law compliance and protection of the public health and safety
- on-call and diversion related duties

Minimum Qualification
Licensure as a Pharmacist with NM Board of Pharmacy and four (4) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Must be a New Mexico Certified and Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer (Police Officer), or be eligible for Certification by Waiver, subject to the provisions of Chapter 29, Article 1 NMSA 1978, as set forth in 29-7-6 NMSA 1978, 29-7-10 NMSA 1978 and 10.29.6 NMAC within one (1) year of hire. No Substitutions.
Employment Requirements
Must have and maintain current Driver's License, Defensive Driving Certificate and pass Background Check.
Must be able to successfully complete the NM Law Enforcement Academy training requirements for police officer certification with in the first year of hire.
Working Conditions
Working conditions include the office setting; and field work. Extensive personal computer and telephone usage; and extended periods of sitting, standing, and driving. Must be able to successfully complete the NM Law Enforcement Academy training requirements for police officer certification with in the first year of hire. May be exposed to hazardous material and hazardous conditions.
