Overview
Working as a deck hand for Cocoa Beach Eco Tours is a fun and exciting position. You will be running up to three trips per day about 3 times per week. This comes out to about $150 per day with about $100 in tips split between the captain and deckhand. Below are the responsibilities you will be taking as a deck hand
Responsibilities
- Ready to work at 8:45, dress professional, pockets
- Check both Bathrooms first
- Install Gangway
- Cooler, drain, Ice and stock sodas
- Wipe seats
- Bring down sodas and waters in white bucket, Ice man will stock
- Look for trash and sweep under seats
- put up Flag
- Radio, 2 mics and Audio on and tested.
- Adjust lines as per captain (loosen bow and or stern, adjust spring if needed)
- Any time Pax approaches, greet with a hand shake and smile, be sincere! When people are boarding, this first impression is game time, SMILE, SHAKE HANDS
- Someone is always at Gangway while pax are boarding
- Double check that every one is checked in and waivers are signed
- Pax head count, tell captain # as we get underway
- Remove Gangway and put it on the dock, put pins in tray gate shut both on boat and at fence
DURING TRIP
- Pull fenders going out canal, stored in front of radio
- Take breaks as needed, preferably while running on river, not during a trip turn over.
- 80/20 rule. Narrate 80%, Talk to each group 20%, focus on the introverts and grumpy people
- Learn to watch for wildlife while talking. Eyes all around all the time
- During trip, check head, especially if someone was in there for a while or its getting used a lot
Last trip of day
- After final speech as we enter canal put fenders out
- Flyers to give to friends and Bioluminesense
- Gather everything that goes to office, turn off radio, mics and audio plug going down canal and set on table by radio
- Be at Gangway saying goodbye, shanking hands
- Dock lines secure
-Trash, recycle. Rinse cans
- Clean heads on boat and in the office
- Bring Flag down
- All trash off deck, look under seats, hair balls and base of seats
- Gangway on boat, pins in tray
- Boat gates latched shut
- Fence Gate locked
- Radio equipment, black box, boat keys and boat cash in the office. Plug in 2 mics, 1 Audio plug, and radio (rotate radio battery every few days)
- Office locked
Pay: $20.00 per hour
