The Industrial Electrician is responsible for wiring, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning the electrical systems used in PTR's industrial balers and compactors. This position works closely with production, engineering, hydraulics, and quality teams to ensure each machine is built to specification, operates safely, and meets the highest quality standards before shipment.
The ideal candidate has experience with industrial electrical systems, motor controls, PLCs, and reading electrical schematics. Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, wire, and connect electrical systems on industrial balers, compactors, and related equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings.
- Troubleshoot electrical components and diagnose system failures during assembly and testing.
- Install and wire safety devices, limit switches, sensors, relays, and control panels.
- Configure and verify proper operation of three-phase electrical systems and motor controls.
- Assist with PLC wiring, troubleshooting, and system verification.
- Set and verify hydraulic pressure settings during equipment commissioning.
- Perform electrical testing to ensure equipment operates safely and according to specifications.
- Support final inspections and functional testing prior to shipment.
- Prepare completed equipment for shipment, ensuring all electrical components are secured and documented.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical issues.
- Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Electrical trade school, technical degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent electrical certification preferred.
- 3-5 years of commercial or industrial electrical experience.
- Experience working with three-phase electrical systems and motor controls.
- Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical equipment.
- Working knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to work around hydraulic and mechanical systems.
- Ability to use electrical testing equipment, meters, and common hand tools.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in a manufacturing environment throughout the workday.
- Willingness to work overtime as business needs require.
- Reliable transportation.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience wiring heavy industrial equipment or machinery.
- Experience with hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety practices.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus.
