Overview
Housed in one of the leading public research universities on the East Coast, the Rutgers Filmmaking Center at Mason Gross School of the Arts offers an undergraduate BFA program that balances practice, theory, and history of cinema. Named by The Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap, and Variety as one of the top film programs in the country, the program trains students in all aspects of film production, including research, interdisciplinary collaboration, scriptwriting, cinematography, field production, directing, editing, and post-production. The curriculum exposes students to a broad range of cinematic traditions and concepts and approaches, with the aim of creating informed and engaged filmmakers who integrate theory with practice to realize their own unique artistic visions in both narrative and non-narrative modes of filmmaking. Previous students have been accepted to the nation’s top graduate film schools, and the program’s faculty have won numerous awards, including the Academy Award and the Guggenheim Fellowship.
Mason Gross School of the Arts, a vibrant community of artists and scholars with academic programs in music, theater, dance, filmmaking, and art & design, is committed to pursuing excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.
