American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, ACLS/BLS certification, and Level 1 trauma background.

Acute care hospital setting at a Level 1 Trauma facility

Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit (6N) with 48 total beds, including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms
-
Patient population includes epilepsy, 24-48 hour trend EEGs, brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, TBI, and other neuro diagnoses
-
Patient ratio is 1:4 on both days and nights

Primarily Med/Surg with some telemetry monitoring required
-
Bipap ventilators on unit managed by Respiratory Therapy
-
Charge nurse has no patient assignment; one resource RN available on days and nights
-
PCT support: 1-2 on days, 1 at night
-
SWAT RN available for difficult IV access
-
RT and pharmacy available 24/7

Charting via Cerner EMR
-
12-hour day shifts, 7am–7pm
-
3 weekend shifts required per 4-week period; self-scheduling

Travelers are first to float; float areas may include Med/Surg, Telemetry, Westgate campus, or AZ General Laveen Campus

Holiday rotation based on unit coverage needs

Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Level 1 Trauma experience required

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted

BSN preferred; Med/Surg or Telemetry certification preferred

Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to detect subtle changes in neurological patients

Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts allowed
-
Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of valid driver's license required for consideration

Provide acute nursing care to neuro patients including epilepsy monitoring, post-surgical neuro care, and TBI management

Med/Surg or Tele-trained RNs with strong skills will be trained on-unit to assess cranial nerves
-
Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit, preceded by a 12-hour general orientation

Day 1 of orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field

Candidates who are not confident in maintaining sterile field are unlikely to be a good fit for this position

Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates; driver's license is used to verify permanent address

Personal vehicle required — travel team members must provide their own transportation

Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted

Men must be clean-shaven to pass fit testing
