DJK Custom Homes has been building award-winning custom homes throughout Chicago's western suburbs for over 35 years. We specialize in luxury custom homes, designer-curated homes, remodeling, land development, and investment properties. We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and support our continued growth.
Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the daily accounting operations of DJK Custom Homes and its related entities. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains strong accounting controls, oversees transaction processing, and provides timely financial information to company leadership. This individual will help improve financial systems, reporting, and accounting processes as the company continues to grow.
Primary Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Manage day-to-day accounting for multiple entities.
- Maintain the general ledger and prepare monthly financial statements.
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Process journal entries and month-end close.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules.
- Coordinate with the company's CPA for year-end tax preparation.
- Monitor cash balances and assist with cash flow reporting.
Construction Accounting
- Reconcile Buildertrend and QuickBooks.
- Monitor job costing, budgets, inventory accounting, customer deposits, progress billings, lender draws, and change order accounting.
Accounts Payable
- Manage vendor invoices, approvals, payment runs, subcontractor payments, lien waivers, and vendor aging.
Accounts Receivable
- Prepare invoices, monitor collections, reconcile accounts, and maintain aging reports.
Payroll & Administrative Support
- Coordinate payroll, reimbursements, and payroll records.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, job cost reports, budget vs. actual reports, AP/AR aging, inventory reports, and development project summaries.
Process Improvement
- Develop SOPs, improve workflows, maintain organized financial records, and support software/process improvements.
Software
QuickBooks Enterprise, Buildertrend, Microsoft Excel (Advanced), Microsoft 365, Spreadsheet Sync, DoorLoop or AppFolio (preferred).
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (preferred) or Finance.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with month-end/year-end close, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, AP, AR, payroll, cash management, and general ledger accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills and excellent organizational abilities.
Preferred
- Residential construction or real estate accounting.
- Inventory accounting, job costing, and WIP accounting.
- QuickBooks Enterprise and Buildertrend experience.
- Experience with multiple entities and outside CPA coordination.
- CPA or CPA candidate is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits
Hourly position (30–40 hours per week), competitive hourly wage based on experience, performance-based bonus opportunity, paid time off, health benefits (if applicable), retirement plan (if applicable), and professional development opportunities.
Pay: $36.00 - $58.00 per hour
