Professional Staff Nurse, OP – Grandview Surgical Associates (UPMC)
Location:
1995 Technology Pkwy, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050
Position supports West Shore Hospital, coordinating inpatient care and surgeries. This role will also provide coverage at UPMC Harrisburg as needed.
Schedule:
Monday, Thursday, Friday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
No weekends or holidays
Position Summary:
The Professional Staff Nurse, OP supports surgical patient care across inpatient settings by collaborating closely with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams. This role is responsible for coordinating care throughout the surgical continuum, ensuring efficient operations, high-quality patient outcomes, and a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate inpatient surgical care, including rounding with surgeons, consults, admissions, transfers, and discharge planning
Provide patient education and support throughout the surgical process
Schedule procedures and ensure completion of preoperative requirements and diagnostic testing
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, case management, and ancillary departments to ensure seamless care coordination
Facilitate follow-up care and address patient concerns
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient tracking systems
Participate in daily multidisciplinary meetings and support team communication
Provide cross-coverage support at UPMC Harrisburg as needed

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients within the assigned unit
Applies principles of growth and development across the lifespan to assess and interpret patient needs
Utilizes assessment data to identify and address age-specific care requirements in accordance with department policies and procedures
Minimum of six (6) months of clinical experience preferred
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the state of Pennsylvania or a state recognized through licensure compact agreement
CPR certification (AHA) required within 30 days of hire, including both didactic and skills demonstration components
UPMC-approved national certification preferred
Graduate Nurses (GNs) must pass the NCLEX within six (6) months of hire or within one (1) year of graduation, whichever comes first
Temporary practice permits are valid up to one (1) year from the date of graduation or until exam results are received; however, UPMC requires GNs to take the licensure exam within six (6) months of hire
Failure to meet licensure requirements may result in termination or reassignment at the discretion of the business unit
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
Act 34
- Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
