Electro-Mechanical Engineer (RF Photonics)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Electro-Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of next-generation RF Photonic Instruments. In this role, you will be responsible for developing highly integrated electronics and designing the mechanical assemblies.
Key Responsibilities
- Circuit Board Design: Design, layout, and test multi-layer PCBAs incorporating high-speed digital circuits, precision analog, and RF components (DC to GHz ranges).
- Mechanical Packaging: Create detailed 3D CAD models for instrument enclosures, including protection for sensitive electronics with detailed routing of fiber and cables
- RF & Signal Integrity: Implement best practices for RF grounding, shielding, and impedance matching to minimize signal loss and electromagnetic interference (EMI).
- Thermal Management: Conduct thermal analysis and design active/passive cooling solutions (heatsinks, TECs) to stabilize photonic components and high-power RF amplifiers.
- Prototyping & Testing: Oversee the assembly of prototypes and use specialized equipment (Network Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Optical Spectrum Analyzers) to validate performance.
- Collaboration: Closely work with team members and other technical teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 5 - 10 years work experience in a related field
- ECAD Tools: Proficiency in PCB design software such as Altium Designer.
- MCAD Tools: Expert-level experience with 3D modeling software like SolidWorks.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly), including CNC machining, sheet metal, and PCB fabrication.
Preferred Attributes
- Direct experience with Fiber Optics, Lasers, Modulators and Photodiodes
- Radio Frequency Systems Knowledge: Understanding of RF components such as amplifiers, transmission lines, antennas and synthesizers.
