Summary
The Senior IT Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the Society for Vascular Surgery's technology environment remains secure, reliable, and efficient while supporting staff in delivering the Society's mission. This role serves as the operational owner of the Society's Microsoft 365 environment and core infrastructure, maintaining and optimizing existing systems while partnering with the Director of IT & AI to implement strategic technology initiatives. The position balances technical expertise with customer service, vendor management, business partnership, and operational problem solving.
As part of a small, collaborative IT team, this individual is expected to contribute beyond infrastructure by providing cross-functional support across web, database, and business systems as needed. Success in this role is measured by system reliability, cybersecurity, user satisfaction, operational efficiency, and the resiliency of the Society's technology operations.
What you’ll own
- Ensure the Society's Microsoft 365 environment remains secure, reliable, and optimized to support business operations.
- Manage the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and support of the organization's hardware, software, and cloud-based technology solutions, including voice communication, audio-visual systems, and end-user computing devices.
- Own the administration, maintenance, and support of Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, Defender, telephony, identity, collaboration, storage, and security.
- Manage endpoint deployment, configuration, compliance, and lifecycle using Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot.
- Monitor Microsoft security tools and system health, investigate incidents, coordinate remediation efforts, and implement cybersecurity best practices.
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of virtualization technologies in the administration and maintenance of hosts, virtual machines, and cloud infrastructure.
- Support Azure cloud resources, including storage, networking, virtual machines, backups, and resource governance.
- Develop, maintain, and improve PowerShell scripts and automation workflows to streamline IT operations and improve organizational efficiency.
- Provide advanced technical support, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for local and remote staff while serving as an escalation point for complex issues.
- Plan, document, and deliver IT projects by gathering business requirements, developing implementation plans, coordinating vendors, and ensuring successful execution.
- Support network operations by troubleshooting connectivity, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and related infrastructure issues, escalating to managed service providers when appropriate.
- Maintain backup solutions, disaster recovery procedures, and business continuity plans, including periodic testing and documentation.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors, managed service providers, and software partners, including licensing, renewals, contract coordination, and service performance.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies, including AI-powered productivity tools, workflow automation, and cloud services that improve organizational effectiveness.
- Collaborate with management and business stakeholders to identify technology needs, define solutions, and support organizational initiatives.
- Participate in IT budgeting, technology planning, asset lifecycle management, and long-term infrastructure strategy.
- Support compliance initiatives, cybersecurity audits, vendor security assessments, and organizational technology policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to the job
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of Microsoft 365 administration experience preferred.
- Three years of nonprofit experience highly desired.
- Customer-focused with strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Strong vendor, project, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender, and the Microsoft security ecosystem.
- Experience with Azure cloud infrastructure, Microsoft licensing, backup and disaster recovery platforms, and PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Solid understanding of endpoint management, hybrid work environments, and virtualization technologies (VMware and/or Hyper-V.)
- Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, VPNs, networking fundamentals, and cybersecurity best practices, including NIST, CIS, and Zero Trust principles.

Physical Requirements & Environment
Typical office setting with routine sitting and occasional standing. Routine use of basic office equipment and computer. Occasional lifting is required to move and store office supplies. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required based on business needs. This is a remote position. Routine teleworking is available.
