Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering strictly to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or forklift equipment when necessary, ensuring cargo is secured properly on flatbed trailers for transport.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems to meet delivery schedules while optimizing fuel consumption and route planning.
- Transport a variety of cargo including freight, hazardous materials (Hazmat), dangerous goods, refrigerated items, tanker loads, or specialty equipment such as dump trucks or roll-off trucks.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before hitting the road.
- Ensure compliance with hazardous materials regulations during transportation, handling dangerous goods with care and according to safety protocols.
- Load & unload cargo at delivery points, ensuring proper documentation and securement of loads during transit.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, deliveries, inspections, and cargo handling in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients to confirm delivery details and resolve any route or cargo issues promptly.
Experience
- Valid CDL A license with flatbed endorsement required; experience hauling flatbed freight strongly preferred.
- Proven track record in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving experience.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, tanker trucks, forklift operation, dump trucks or roll-off trucks is a plus.
- Knowledge of logistics cargo handling procedures and truck loading/unloading techniques.
- Understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat), and safety standards for transporting dangerous goods.
- Experience navigating using GPS navigation systems on long-haul routes across diverse geographic regions.
- Ability to handle manual transmission vehicles confidently; experience with automobile transportation is advantageous.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols, manual handling skills, and adherence to all trucking regulations for over-the-road operations.
