JOB
Under the supervision of the Operations Superintendent or designee, perform a full range of maintenance tasks up to and including journey level work to implement City work programs. Depending on the assigned work area, perform a variety of duties for a full range of maintenance for facilities, parks, streets, or street landscape divisions. Provide logistical support and assistance for City programs and special events. Select and operate trucks, construction and maintenance equipment (motorized and non-motorized) in performing maintenance and improvement tasks for facilities, parks, streets, right-of-ways, public easements, and drainage systems.
This is an AFSCME represented position.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Streets:
Operate various types of equipment for road maintenance and construction; load, haul, and spread road maintenance material from dump trucks and trailers; operate mowing equipment for mowing roadside vegetation; and operate dump trucks with snow plow and/or sanding units attached for plowing or salting roads for snow and ice control. Perform routine road maintenance such as filling potholes, crack sealing, striping, installing pavement markings; brushing and blading; cleaning culverts; grading and reshaping shoulders; clearing debris from the roadway surface and right-of-way; spreading gravel, deicer, and salt; and clearing and removing snow; perform spot repairs to roadways and shoulders; place traffic cones and other traffic control devices; assist in the construction of minor public works improvements. Install, repair, and replace signs and posts.
Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition; operate various types of vehicles to transport materials and personnel; prepare and maintain records, such as daily reports identifying specific work duty activities and time allotments; respond to inquiries from the public providing information within scope of knowledge and position; respond to emergency situations as necessary; remove trash, debris, and dead animals from roadways; assist in training team members in safety and maintenance procedures and practices; perform flagger duties.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in both office and field and/or outdoor environments and requires travel to a variety of locations to perform work. Exposure to various weather conditions, traffic hazards, and hazards from obstacles and open trenches associated with construction sites. May be required to enter tight and confined spaces by crawling, climbing, or descending into the space.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Regularly required to perform sustained repetitive hand motion associated with the operation of motor vehicles, hand and power tools; heavy manual labor; work in confined spaces and around high levels of noise. Ability to sustain continuous physical effort including bending, walking, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, carrying, standing, sitting, manipulation of and lifting of heavy equipment, lifting or moving 50 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving more than 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to hear and understand verbal and written instruction, and to communicate with others to exchange information. Job requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
HAZARDS
Regularly works near moving mechanical parts; may work in high, precarious places; frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and equipment vibration; occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock; outdoor heat and occasional wildfire smoke during summer months. The noise level is usually loud.
