AKF Academy is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Needs Teacher to join our team and provide specialized instruction and support to K-5 students. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating an inclusive and enriching learning environment where every student can achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement curricula for K-5 students with diverse learning needs, including academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals.
- Provide direct differentiated instruction to students individually and in small group settings; adapting teaching methods and materials to meet individual student needs.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and make data-driven instructional decisions.
- Collaborate effectively with support staff, parents, and administrators to ensure seamless integration and support for students.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, assistive technologies, and classroom management techniques to create a positive and productive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with school, state, and federal guidelines.
- Stay current with best practices, educational research, and legal mandates related to special education.
- Foster a classroom culture of respect, acceptance, and high expectations for all students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education.
- Valid state teaching certification/licensure in Special Education (K-5 or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience working with K-5 students with a range of disabilities.
- Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations (IDEA).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with specific instructional methodologies -Behavioral Intervention & Management: ( ABA) & Functional Communication Training (FCT), Communication & Literacy for Nonverbal Students: AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) & Nonverbal Reading Approach, Classroom Adaptations & Visual Supports: Structured Tasks & Visuals.
- Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and supports.
- Experience in small group and co-teaching models.
Mon thru Friday 8.30am-3.30pm. Following Gwinnett school calendar.
