Job Summary:
The Prosthetics and Orthotics Resident is a trainee position designed to provide supervised clinical and technical experience in the evaluation, design, fitting, and follow-up care of prosthetic and orthotic devices. This role supports the clinical team in delivering patient-centered care while meeting the requirements of the residency program as outlined by the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE).

Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting patient evaluations to assess prosthetic and orthotic needs, including physical and functional assessments.
- Collaborate with certified practitioners to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Participate in the fitting, adjustment, and alignment of prosthetic and orthotic devices to ensure proper function and patient satisfaction.
- Educate patients and caregivers on device use, care, and maintenance.
Technical and Fabrication Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and fabrication of custom prosthetic and orthotic devices under supervision.
- Perform modifications, adjustments, and repairs to devices as required.
- Utilize tools and technology, including CAD/CAM systems and 3D printing, in device fabrication and design.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including clinical notes, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
- Assist in preparing documentation required for insurance claims and billing.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including ABC and/or BOC standards.
Professional Development
- Attend and participate in scheduled training sessions, workshops, and seminars.
- Engage in regular mentorship meetings with certified practitioners to review clinical and technical progress.
- Complete residency program milestones as outlined by the Residency Director and NCOPE standards.
Administrative and Operational Support
- Assist in managing patient flow, scheduling, and coordination of care.
- Support inventory management for clinical supplies and materials used in fabrication.
- Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from a CAAHEP-accredited program.
- Eligibility for enrollment in an NCOPE-accredited residency program.
- Basic knowledge of prosthetic and orthotic devices, clinical practices, and fabrication techniques.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Experience with CAD/CAM systems and 3D printing technologies (preferred).
- Familiarity with patient management software, such as OPIE or Brightree (preferred).
- Prefer previous experience in a clinical or fabrication setting (e.g., through internships or practicums).

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
