JOB SUMMARYPerforms professional technical and analytical work developing, maintaining, and editing maps, computer mapping files, and map data for various departmental projects, utilizing a variety of computer software and hardware. Work involves reading legal descriptions, preparing maps, utility and/or infrastructure designs, engineering record drawings, and/or graphic materials for presentations; collection of data via GPS of existing utilities and/or infrastructure for design plans and record drawings, and assisting the public with viewing and copying of archival drawings and plans.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSCreates, edits, and maintains maps and map data for various engineering projects, reports, and databases. Prepares technical drawings using AutoCAD, ESRI ArcMap, or similar computer software. Compiles and collects data for use in map creation, such as survey data, field data, as-built plans, GIS data, paper plans, deed and plat scans, sketches, and other data sources. May create and maintain online mapping applications. Prepares technical and engineering record drawings for proposed and constructed infrastructure, including field work to GPS installed utilities when necessary. Reviews legal descriptions, record drawings, and as-built plans for accuracy and conformance with departmental standards. Inputs, recalls, edits, and manipulates data and data files, prepares maps manually and through the use of computer graphics display terminals and plotters. Utilizes computers to create, move, rotate, and plot design files; maintains and edits computer database; identifies mapping inconsistencies and errors and makes appropriate corrections; prepares meaningful graphic displays. Links map features to attributes in a database to maintain and update data, and to select and display map features and perform analysis.Assists the general public and other departments by providing departmental information in a verbal or graphic form. Performs basic administrative duties including written reports, memorandums, letters, and electronic correspondence, interaction with customers, and communication through telephone and meetings. Provide exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
