JOB SUMMARY
Crawford & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Project Manager I to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of small to medium-size geotechnical engineering projects. This role manages scope, schedule, budget, and client communication while ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities of this role include managing project staff, reviewing advanced analyses and report submittals, providing design recommendations, and mentoring staff as a fully licensed Professional Engineer. It is ideal for a licensed engineer transitioning into formal project leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Manage small to mid-sized engineering projects or major components of larger projects.
- Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and work plans.
- Serve as primary client contact for agencies and stakeholders.
- Coordinate internal engineering teams and external consultants.
Technical & Quality Oversight
- Review of engineering calculations completed by project staff related to foundation design, slope stability, levee design, pavement design, settlement, seismic design, liquefaction, and lateral spreading.
- Experience with geotechnical software, including Ensoft (LPile, APile, Group), Shaft, Geostudio, and Settle3D.
- Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Support construction-phase services including RFIs and submittal reviews.
Financial & Contract Management
- Monitor performance including financial tracking, invoicing, and resource allocation.
- Identify and manage risks, scope changes, and contract modifications.
Business Development & Staff Mentorship
- Participate in proposal preparation, fee estimating, and business development.
- Develop client relationships and maintain regular communication throughout project duration.
- Mentor and oversee junior engineers and support professional development initiatives within the firm
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Geotechnical, or related discipline).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering experience.
- Experience performing technical components of moderate-to-complex projects.
- Valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles and industry standards.
- Knowledge of California codes, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with engineering design software.
- Experience with project budgeting, scheduling, and cost control.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Leadership skills with ability to mentor junior staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This role is primarily office-based with occasional field work and client visits. Standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with variations during busy seasons.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
