Overview
ProgUSA has been selling and supporting high-end electrical test equipment for 20 years. Our customers are power utilities, NETA testing firms, and electrical equipment OEMs across the United States. We represent DV Power, RH Systems, Synecom, UViRCO, FOTRIC, CHK Power Quality, Enervac, and Hipotronics, among others.
We are not a catalog house. Our model is Equipment + Education + Service = Partnership. Customers buy from us because our people understand transformer winding tests, SF6 handling, contact resistance, corona imaging, and power quality well enough to have a real conversation with the engineer who has to use the instrument.
Responsibilities
You will own the U.S. sales number. You will lead a team of Technical Sales Representatives who cover the country from home offices, and you will oversee the independent rep firms who extend our reach into territories we cannot cover directly.
This is a player-coach position. You will personally cover the Midwest territory (Ohio, Indiana, and adjacent states) while leading the national team. We are a focused company, not a large one, and the sales manager sells.
What you will do
- Own the national revenue and margin plan. Forecast it, defend it, hit it.
- Lead, coach, and hold accountable a team of Technical Sales Representatives working from home offices across the country.
- Oversee our network of independent rep firms. The Technical Sales Representatives in each region manages the rep firm day to day; you set the standard, review performance, and decide where we invest, expand, or replace.
- Carry the Midwest territory personally: utilities, NETA firms, and industrial accounts in Ohio, Indiana, and the surrounding states.
- Run the quoting and pipeline discipline in our CRM (Odoo). Aging quotes get followed up. Deals get updated. No exceptions.
- Protect margin. We hold a 15% discount floor and target 22%+ blended.
- Work with our vendors (DV Power, RH Systems, and the rest) on product positioning, training, and demand generation.
- Deliver product demonstrations and technical presentations at customer sites, trade shows, and utility conferences.
Requirements
- Formal education in electrical power technology or electrical engineering. Bachelor's preferred; an associate degree or equivalent technical training in electrical power will be considered. This is analog electrical power, not IT and not data networking.
- 5+ years selling technical or engineered products into the electrical power industry. Utilities, NETA firms, electrical testing companies, or electrical OEMs.
- Direct experience with test and measurement equipment, substation testing, or power quality instrumentation.
- A track record of hitting a number and the willingness to be measured against one.
- Able to present confidently and credibly to utility engineers, substation managers, and NETA technicians.
- Comfortable with CRM discipline and MS Office. We provide the PC.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel roughly 40%.
- Able to lift demonstration equipment up to 40 lbs.
Preferred
- Prior experience leading a distributed sales team or managing manufacturers' representative firms.
- Existing relationships in utility, NETA, or industrial testing markets in the Midwest.
- Experience with transformer testing, SF6 gas analysis, circuit breaker testing, thermal or corona imaging, or battery bank testing.
What we offer
- Base salary plus uncapped commission. Work hard and work smart to make more money. There is no ceiling on what you earn.
- Health coverage support. ProgUSA funds a Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (QSEHRA). You choose your own individual health plan, and we reimburse your premiums and qualifying medical expenses up to the IRS annual maximum, tax-free to you.
- Expense allowance, cell phone reimbursement, and a company-provided PC.
- Paid time off.
- Home office. We are not going to make you drive to Orlando to sit at a desk.
- A vendor line card people in this industry actually want to sell. DV Power, RH Systems, Hipotronics, UViRCO, FOTRIC, and more.
- A short chain of command. You will work directly with the President. No layers, no politics, no waiting six weeks for a pricing decision.
Who fits here
The person who does well at ProgUSA is curious, listens more than they talk, and is disciplined about follow-up. They are comfortable being the most technical person in a sales conversation and the most commercial person in a technical one.
If you are a seasoned power utility or electrical test sales professional who is tired of being three layers deep in a large organization and wants to run a national business, this is that job.
To apply
Send a resume and a short note explaining a technical sale you personally closed in the utility or NETA market and what made it close.
