The Nurse Tutor provides academic support to students in the Direct Entry Masters Prelicensure (DE-MSN) Program through individual and group tutoring in core nursing courses including pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical-surgical.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Consult with small groups & individual students to identify their needs in a variety of
academic subjects and offer review and other resources to address those needs.
2. Conduct small group and one-on-one tutorial sessions, in-person or virtual, for a
variety of nursing courses.
3. Support students understanding and application of course material.
4. Help students develop and apply appropriate learning and study skills, including time
management and test- taking strategies in preparation for course exams.
5. Meet with students at appointed times (either in-person/virtual as small groups or
individually).
6. Work in conjunction with faculty to provide students with assistance/resources to aid
them in completing assignments and meeting course objectives.
7. Provide students preparing for exams with study resources and direction that support
faculty information.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- MSN degree
- Knowledge of subject matter in core nursing courses
- Skills in interpersonal communication (both oral and written).
- Ability to work with students with various learning styles from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong commitment to high quality instruction for pre-licensure students
- Ability to:
- utilize a variety of strategies with appropriate sensitivity to students’ various learning styles
- work effectively with small groups or individual students to support learning needs
- Meet virtually, using Microsoft Teams or other appropriate software, or in person with small groups or individual students in an office setting or room, to accommodate course review materials.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A strong performance record while a DEMSN student overall, and particularly in the sciences, foundational courses (e.g. pathophysiology, pharmacology) and clinical theory courses.
