Position: K-5 Program Staff
Classification: Hourly, Non- exempt
Hours: Part-time, 21 hours/week for the school year. Additional hours may be required for summer programming or school vacation weeks.
Location: On-site with off-site field trips
Salary: $19-$21 per hour
Position Overview
The K-5 Program Staff supports the supervision of an afterschool classroom for either grades Kindergarten to 1st grade, 2nd grade to 3rd grade or 4th grade to 5th grade. The Program Staff is responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities and building trusting youth relationships. The expected work schedule is 21 hours a week. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday:2:00pm - 6:00pm. Wednesday: 1:00pm - 6:00pm. Additional hours may be assigned for summer programming or school vacation weeks.
Relationships and Roles
- Reports directly to the K-5 Director of Academics and/or Director of Enrichment
- Collaborates with K-5 Program Directors, K-5 Classroom Lead and other KSC program staff to implement programming.
- Engages with youth, families, volunteers, and community partners to foster a supportive program environment.
Responsibilities
- Needs to work at least 3 out of the 5 shifts listed above.
- Implement daily educational and age-appropriate activities and games for students
- Support student behavior needs with oversight and support from K-5 Program Director and Classroom Leads.
- Ensure health, safety and enjoyment of students in program.
- Teach students life skills, appropriate behaviors, and how to make good choices.
- Interact with students to resolve problems.
- Support students with reading and math skills during academic time
- Maintain awareness of student’s participation and whereabouts.
- Walk children to King Street Center from school at least twice a week
- General “housekeeping” matters such as classroom clean up, and light facilities maintenance. Support the organization of the K-5 program storage spaces
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Attend all required training and maintain compliance with licensing standards.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma required
Experience
- Some experience working with children required
- Some life or work experience (or personal lived experienced) with BIPOC, immigrant and/or low-income communities required

Physical Requirements/ Conditions of work
- Work is conducted inside and outside during all seasons.
- Must be able to be active, participate in gross motor games, and move distances to neighborhood sites.
- Occasional lifting, up to 50 pounds.
- Occasional interaction with children and families exhibiting some instability in their behavior
- Potential for injury from physical interplay with children, and for illness passed along from children.
