DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Duties: Performs supervisory and retail sales work managing the operation of the municipal liquor store/bar (both off-sale and on-sale); performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Liquor Store/Bar Manager;
Supervision Exercised: Exercises general supervision over staff in the absence of the Manager.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED:
The listed examples may not include all duties performed; additional duties may be assigned.
- Communicates and delegates tasks to the liquor store team;
- Sets up cash bags, registers and delivers deposits to the bank or Deputy Clerk;
- Create a positive relationship with vendors, other agencies, and customers;
- Checks incoming shipments and oversees storage operations to ensure efficient use of space, stock shelves;
- Checks patrons ID's, determines whether to sell/serve, and handles behavior problems;
- Assists customers with purchase needs including locating merchandise and recommending purchases;
- Waits on customers in the bar; prepares drinks, collects money, and makes change; sells product to customers, including pull tabs;
- Prepares and cooks frozen pizzas, auto fryer food and fresh pattied burgers;
- Clean and change oil on the Auto Fryer weekly.
- Communicates with Manager about Staff, Vendors, Customers, Compliance Checks etc..
- Assist Manager with training new employees.
- Planning of events and activities.
- Performs duties as assigned by the Manager;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of liquor store management including applicable laws, merchandising, retail sales, and customer service;
- Considerable knowledge of merchandise locations and how to make drinks;
- Considerable ability to use judgement and discretion in sales based on age, state of inebriation, and/or possibility of bad checks;
- Considerable ability to communicate effectively with the public, elected officials, sales personnel, and state officials and to promote sales;
- Considerable ability to use large motor skills to lift and to carry objects such as cases of beer and liquor weighing up to 75 pounds when stocking coolers and shelves and up to 138 pounds when carrying kegs with assistance;
- Considerable ability to use fine motor skills to operate a cash register, count cash and make change;
- Considerable ability to stand or walk for long periods when stocking or assisting customers;
- Considerable ability to see and hear to wait on customers, answer the phone, stock shelves, dust and rotate merchandise and clean the bar;
- Considerable ability to repetitively bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, twist and turn for long periods of time, to stock or retrieve merchandise or assist customers;
- Considerable ability to follow established operational policies, procedures and guidelines;
- Considerable ability to analyze information, perform mathematical calculations, prepare reports, and inventory stock;
- Considerable ability to supervise and schedule staff and promote safety in the workplace;
- Considerable ability to use a computer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience as a bartender in a liquor establishment, or one year of experience as a lead bartender of a bar or liquor store.
