Overview
We are looking for a versatile, detail‑driven Payroll Specialist to support both payroll operations and core HR processes. Must have hands‑on experience in Rippling Payroll system. This role is ideal for someone who can move fluidly between transactional accuracy and people‑focused support, ensuring a smooth employee experience across the full HR lifecycle. Must have strong background in multi-state payroll processing, payroll tax compliance for small to mid-size businesses. Solid foundation in general HR practices and benefits administration.
Responsibilities:
- Must have hands-on experience processing payroll using Rippling Payroll System
- Process full-cycle payroll using Rippling Payroll for small to mid-size businesses across multiple states (experience with QuickBooks Desktop, Gusto, or Paychex a plus)
- Ensure accurate calculation and submission of payroll taxes, including quarterly and annual filings
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations
- Audit payroll data for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification
- Reconcile payroll reports and support Finance with payroll‑related reporting
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings
- Process direct deposits and record paychecks
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with clarity and professionalism
- Onboard and offboard employees, ensuring all required payroll and HR forms are completed accurately in HRIS and payroll systems
- Support benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and employee questions
- Provide general HR support related to policies, compliance, and employee relations
- Assist with Rippling timekeeping and scheduling systems, PTO tracking, and attendance management
- Contribute to HR process improvements, documentation, and compliance activities
- Maintain client communication and relationships
Desirable Skills:

- General understanding of federal and state employment law (especially California) and retirement plans
- Integrity, accuracy, dependability and a keen attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong time management to meet project and payroll deadlines
- Ability to multitask across several client projects alongside payroll processing
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook/Calendar, Teams, and OneNote
- Familiarity with password management
- Familiarity with Google Workspace
- Ability to work independently
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30.00 - $33.00 per hour
