Job Summary
The Forklift Operator / Dock Worker is responsible for safely and efficiently operating powered industrial trucks while also serving in a supervisory capacity on the dock. This role supports warehouse, dispatch, and customer service operations by coordinating shipments, supervising drivers, handling basic billing and data entry, and ensuring smooth day‑to‑day dock activities. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Forklift & Dock Operations
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently
- Load, unload, move, stack, and store materials and products
- Inspect forklift equipment daily and report maintenance issues
- Maintain accurate inventory movements and records
- Ensure products are handled and stored properly to prevent damage
- Keep dock and work areas clean, organized, and free from hazards
- Follow OSHA and company safety policies at all times
- Assist with general warehouse and dock duties as assigned
Supervisory & Dispatch Responsibilities
- Serve as a working dock supervisor, leading by example while performing daily dock functions
- Supervise drivers and dock staff, providing direction, relaying instructions, and ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time
- Dispatch drivers for pickups and deliveries and coordinate routing as needed
- Communicate effectively with drivers regarding schedules, changes, and operational expectations
Customer Service & Administrative Duties
- Perform customer service‑related tasks, including answering incoming calls
- Trace shipments and provide status updates to internal teams or customers
- Schedule pickups and deliveries
- Perform basic billing functions and data entry
- Accurately document shipment and operational information using company systems
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Clear communication skills for working with drivers, customers, and internal teams
- Attention to detail in documentation, billing, and inventory records
- Ability to work independently while also supervising others
- Basic computer skills for data entry and billing systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and squat for extended periods
- Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of materials up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb on and off forklift equipment repeatedly during shifts
- Manual dexterity for operating equipment controls and handling materials
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, noise levels, and warehouse conditions
- Visual ability to safely operate equipment and read labels and documentation
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
