About the Opportunity
American Filter Manufacturing is seeking an experienced and dependable Shipping & Receiving Material Handler to join our team. This position is responsible for safely loading, unloading, moving, staging, and storing materials while supporting daily shipping, receiving, warehouse, and production needs.
The ideal candidate will have previous warehouse and shipping and receiving experience, as well as experience safely operating a forklift. Additional training will be provided on our facility, equipment, inventory procedures, and company-specific processes. As the employee develops greater knowledge and proficiency, they may be assigned more complex tasks and increased responsibility.
What You’ll Do
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, and delivery vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Receive materials and compare shipments with packing slips, purchase orders, labels, and other documentation.
- Inspect incoming materials and report damage, shortages, overages, or incorrect items.
- Move raw materials, finished goods, packaging, and supplies to designated warehouse or production locations.
- Stage materials for production, shipment, pickup, or internal transfer.
- Assist with picking, packing, labeling, wrapping, and preparing orders for shipment.
- Organize and maintain warehouse storage areas and keep aisles clear.
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, hand trucks, and other material-handling equipment.
- Complete required pre-use equipment inspections and report unsafe conditions or needed repairs.
- Assist with material counts, location checks, inventory transactions, and shipping and receiving records.
- Maintain accurate material identification and storage locations.
- Maintain clean and safe shipping, receiving, and warehouse work areas.
- Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Previous warehouse experience.
- Previous shipping and receiving experience.
- Previous forklift operating experience.
- Demonstrated ability to safely load, unload, move, stage, and store materials.
- Basic knowledge of shipping and receiving documentation.
- Ability to count materials and read labels, packing slips, purchase orders, and work instructions.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience using pallet jacks, scanners, inventory systems, or shipping software.
- Experience with material counts, inventory transactions, and warehouse-location systems.
Training and Development
We believe in helping our employees continue to develop. Training will be provided to help you:
- Learn our facility layout, storage locations, and material flow.
- Understand company-specific shipping, receiving, and inventory procedures.
- Complete required equipment and forklift evaluations and obtain company authorization.
- Develop greater proficiency in order preparation, inventory handling, and documentation.
- Progress toward independently completing more complex duties.
Expanded responsibilities are based on demonstrated proficiency and business needs and do not guarantee promotion or a specific pay increase.
Physical Requirements
This is an active position in a manufacturing and warehouse environment. Employees must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, push, pull, climb, and perform repetitive movements.
- Regularly lift and carry materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
- Move heavier items with assistance or approved lifting equipment.
- Safely enter and exit forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
- Work around moving equipment, truck traffic, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Work in indoor and outdoor loading areas as needed.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
