Position Overview
We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Pre-Suit/Judgment Supervisor to join our growing collections law firm in Southfield, Michigan. The ideal candidate will have a strong background supervising legal assistants within a collections or creditor rights environment and possess extensive knowledge of Michigan court procedures and litigation workflows.
This leadership role oversees the daily operations of the pre-suit/pre-judgment department, ensuring productivity, accuracy, compliance, and adherence to client and court deadlines. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing escalated issues while motivating and developing a high-performing team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and support legal assistants within the pre-suit/pre-judgment department
- Oversee the progression of new lawsuits into the firm’s case management system
- Maintain accurate client, debtor, and litigation data within internal systems.
- Draft and assemble legal documents, including summons and complaints, affidavits, and change of venue filings
- Monitor court deadlines, diary entries, and reporting requirements to ensure timely case progression
- Run and analyze productivity, inventory, and status reports for management review
- Delegate workload appropriately while maintaining balanced staffing and departmental efficiency
- Review employee work product for accuracy, productivity, and compliance with firm standards
- Assist team members with escalated legal or procedural issues while maintaining professionalism under pressure
- Monitor employee attendance, scheduling, and staffing coverage to ensure operational needs are met
- Collaborate with management and project teams regarding workflow improvements, procedural updates, and system enhancements
- Maintain department training manuals, standard operating procedures, and workflow documentation
- Communicate procedural or policy changes to staff and training personnel
- Work closely with Human Resources regarding staffing, interviewing, onboarding, coaching, and performance management documentation
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including firm policies and procedures
- Perform additional duties and special projects assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- 7+ years of supervisory experience within a collections law firm, creditor rights firm, or legal collections environment
- Prior experience leading paralegals, legal assistants, or litigation support staff required
- Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal Certificate preferred
- Strong understanding of Michigan and Federal court filing procedures and litigation processes
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Experience with case management software; CLS experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Willingness to adapt to evolving technology and operational processes
