Associate Band Director, Middle and Upper School

Pace seeks an enthusiastic Associate Band Director to assist with its Middle and Upper School band programs. In addition to classroom instruction, the candidate should be prepared to spend time during and after school hours working with individual students and participating in Pace activities and events. The Associate Band Director will co-teach band classes, design K-12 percussion curricula, help manage performances and trips, and actively engage in fostering a thriving arts program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaches and co-teaches all Middle and Upper School band classes

In partnership with the Band Director, schedules, organizes and attends band performances, concerts, school-sponsored trips and events

Fulfills all administrative duties commensurate with a band of this scope

Engages with fifth-grade students who are interested in band

Prepares and defines curriculum for all percussion students across all divisions of the school

Teaches woodwind, brass and/or percussion sectionals among all band classes

Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops

Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching and classroom culture

Communicates effectively with parents in a timely manner

Leads parent-teacher conferences and attends parent gatherings

Participates in the co-curricular activities of the school community (such as coaching, sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, etc.)

Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in music education

Percussion specialist preferred

Demonstrated experience teaching Middle and/or Upper School band required

A strong sense of humor, flexibility and a strong desire to work with adolescents is required

Excellent communication skills and professionalism in order to communicate with students, colleagues and parents

Belief in the critical importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the life of a school so as to foster a sense of belonging is required

Attendance at evening and weekend functions is occasionally required

Must be able to work on campus for in-person learning
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone and keyboard

Evening and weekend rehearsal may be required in preparation for performances
