Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Safety Assistant to support our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment within our trucking operations. This role plays a key part in promoting driver and fleet safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the overall safety culture of our organization. The ideal candidate will be familiar with DOT/FMCSA regulations, OSHA standards, and risk management practices in the trucking or transportation industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of company safety policies and procedures specific to trucking operations.
- Conduct routine inspections of vehicles, terminals, and driver practices to ensure compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations.
- Support accident and incident investigations, maintain accurate records, and help identify root causes and preventative measures.
- Track and manage safety training records, driver certifications, and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with safety and dispatch teams to develop driver training materials and safety awareness programs.
- Participate in safety meetings and assist in conducting safety briefings for drivers and terminal staff.
- Help manage workers’ compensation claims, gather necessary documentation, and communicate with HR and insurance providers.
- Monitor safety metrics and prepare reports for internal review.
Experience and Qualifications
- Familiarity with FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA safety standards related to commercial trucking.
- Experience in a safety, compliance, or risk management role within the transportation industry is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain organized safety records and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with drivers, dispatchers, and operations staff.
- Proficiency with basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word); experience with fleet management or ELD software is a plus.
- DOT and FMCSA experience is a must.
