The Clarke Institute for Community Inclusion (CICINY) is seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated Part-Time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide 24-hour respite services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Position Summary
As a 24-Hour Respite DSP, you will provide direct care and supervision to individuals receiving respite services in a safe, supportive, and home-like environment. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, promoting independence, ensuring health and safety, documenting services, and providing companionship throughout overnight and extended respite shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care in accordance with each individual's Life Plan and service goals.
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, grooming, and meal preparation, as needed.
- Provide overnight supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of individuals throughout the shift.
- Support individuals with medication reminders (when authorized), daily routines, recreational activities, and community outings when applicable.
- Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of assistance.
- Observe and report changes in behavior, health status, or overall well-being.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and required agency records.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful living environment.
- Follow all OPWDD regulations, agency policies, and safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Availability to work overnight and/or 8-hour respite shifts.
- Ability to work in Brooklyn.
- Commitment to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Reliable, professional, compassionate, and dependable.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Previous experience in residential services, respite care, home care, or direct support.
- AMAP, SCIP-R, CPR, and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist individuals as needed.
- Ability to remain awake, alert, and responsive during overnight shifts.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform other physical duties associated with direct care.
