Responsibilities
- Assist dentists with chairside procedures, including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, and prosthodontics.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly according to dental sterilization procedures.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and 3D scans while adhering to radiation safety protocols and infection prevention management policies.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history, treatment plans, and medical coding.
- Support patient management by taking vital signs, explaining procedures, and providing post-treatment instructions with excellent patient care skills.
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies while handling sensitive medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with infection control practices by following aseptic techniques and healthcare infection prevention standards during all clinical activities.
- Support the dental team with administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, managing patient flow as a dental receptionist, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a busy dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and dental sterilization procedures.
- Familiarity with dental equipment such as X-ray machines, intraoral cameras, 3D scanners, and other clinical tools.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Experience working with patient management software like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of infection prevention management and aseptic technique to ensure a safe clinical environment.
- Ability to take accurate X-rays (dental x-ray), perform oral surgery assistance, and support pediatric dentistry cases when needed.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively explain procedures and foster positive patient experiences.
- Certification in CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred; ongoing training in healthcare infection control is a plus.
