Duties
- Supervise children during afterschool hours, ensuring their safety through attentive child supervision and childcare practices
- Plan and implement engaging activities such as arts and crafts, outdoor games, theater experiences, and youth group activities that support childhood development and social skills
- Manage classroom behavior using effective behavior management techniques to foster a respectful and inclusive environment
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to first aid protocols, CPR procedures, AED operation, and other emergency response standards
- Collaborate with team members to develop age-appropriate curricula aligned with youth development programs and special education needs when applicable
- Facilitate outdoor work activities and supervise children during field trips or outdoor play to promote physical activity and outdoor learning experiences
- Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding children's progress, behavior, and any concerns that arise during aftercare hours
Skills
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain order while encouraging creativity and independence
- Experience working with children in daycare, babysitting, camp settings, or youth programs; familiarity with childhood development principles is essential
- Knowledge of first aid, CPR, AED operation, and first aid protocols to respond swiftly in emergencies
- Proven ability to lead youth group activities and facilitate youth development programs that foster teamwork and personal growth
- Excellent child supervision skills combined with patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement techniques
- Background in special education or experience working with children with diverse learning needs is a plus
- Ability to work outdoors comfortably in various weather conditions while supervising outdoor activities or field trips
- Theater experience or involvement in youth programs teaching can enhance engagement strategies for creative activities
