Summit Home Health and Hospice is excited to offer meaningful volunteer opportunities. Our Hospice Volunteer Coordinator oversees the volunteer program, ensuring it meets the needs of patients and their families with care and compassion. Volunteers play an essential role, contributing through both administrative support and direct patient care activities.
The coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and retaining volunteers, ensuring they are well-prepared to provide quality service. The program is carefully designed to align with the hospice’s mission and adhere to all regulatory requirements.
The hours are flexible, and evening, daytime, and weekend opportunities are available, with both indirect and direct work with patients and families, depending on your interests and availability. Individuals and groups are also welcome to volunteer.
Indirect work opportunities include:
- Assist with day-to-day administrative tasks (e.g., filing, office work, event preparation).
- Maintain documentation of the cost savings from volunteer services, including time spent and estimated dollar costs saved compared to paid staff.
- Develop and maintain written policies specific to the volunteer program, collaborating with the IDG/T and administration.
- Provide training and orientation for volunteers, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Maintain documentation of volunteer skills, competencies, and in-service training provided in the previous 12 months.
- Develop public relations efforts to build strong relationships with volunteers and the community.
- Promote hospice goals and services to ensure high-quality care through volunteer efforts.
Direct work opportunities include:
- Provide companionship and emotional support to patients and their families.
- Participate in the care planning process and document on the Plan of Care (POC) for patients receiving volunteer services.
- Review and update the individualized POC at least every 15 days or as frequently as required by the patient’s condition.
- Ensure that volunteers contribute direct patient care services, making up at least 5% of the total patient care hours provided by paid staff and contractors.
- Demonstrate the value of volunteer work through documentation supporting patient and family care efforts.
Join us and learn the rewards of helping patients, families, and your community to make every day count and to live each day to the fullest!
