Repairs hydraulic systems and does general overhaul and repair work on automobiles, light trucks, heavy trucks, gasoline engines, diesel engines, tractors, mechanical sweepers, graders, mowers, power shovels, and any other automotive and mechanical equipment. Diagnoses problems with automotive and construction equipment, determines most feasible and economical means of repairing automotive and construction equipment parts and tools. Improvises repair methods when no standard exists, with approval of leach mechanic or supervisor. Performs oxyacetylene and electric arc welding. Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units with related parts including valves, pistons, main bearings, cooling, and fuel exhaust systems. Replaces and repairs transmissions. Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Rewires electrical ignition systems, instruments and does any other wiring associated with job. Inspects parts for wear using micrometer, calipers, and thickness gauges. Tunes motors using standard testing equipment. Will diagnose mechanical failures of and make repairs to tractors, lawnmowers, and all other equipment according to manuals and factory specifications. Will perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge of principles and practices of vehicle repair and related equipment and tools.
STARTING HOURLY PAY: $19.87 p/h
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Two (2) years of experience as a vehicle shop mechanic working on engine drivetrain and/or Automotive Technology Associates
- One (1) year experience in the use of various electronic diagnostic equipment
- Valid driver’s license Must meet City’s insurability requirements
