POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for clerical and customer service work in the Water Utility business office. The incumbent in the position interacts with customers, posts payments, and answers the telephone. The purpose of this position is to facilitate the work of the Water Utility Business Office.
Guidelines include county ordinances, department policies and procedures and verbal instructions. Guidelines are clear and specific but may require some interpretation in specific instances.
Contacts are typically with departmental personnel and the general public.
This work is performed in an office and typically performed sitting at a desk with intermittent standing, stooping, crouching or bending.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Maintains records of work orders and separates into appropriate categories, determines account numbers for new service and disconnect applications, transmits work orders to service personnel, files applications in completed folders for further use

Enters information into the Customer Information System software.

Greets customers and the front window and assists them with Water Utility business

Posts payments to customer accounts

Performs a variety of clerical duties such as opening mail, answering the telephone, light typing and data entry

Performs other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.

Knowledge of bookkeeping and math.

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Skill in working quickly and accurately to prioritize work in meeting deadlines.

Skill in operation of the office machines and equipment.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
