Observes and monitors Detention Center inmates and detects and deters improper or unacceptable behavior. Controls and directs inmates while out of cell areas during transfers, work assignments, meals, recreation, etc. Books inmates into processing center and performs searches of individuals and Detention Center cells to locate weapons or contraband. Prepare logs, records and reports of Detention Center activities. Transports inmates to jail/Department of Corrections facilities, Court, hospital, etc.
· Book inmates conducting classification interviews, obtain information, fingerprinting and photographing inmates, counseling and advising inmates on Detention Center rules and procedures and preparing related documents; may handle money belonging to inmates including inmate property and bail bonds.
· Monitor Detention Center alarm systems and operate controls for doors and surveillance equipment.
· Observe and monitor Detention Center inmates to detect behavioral problems, adjustment difficulties, recognition of interpersonal problems and disputes and identify unmanageable, suicidal, or mentally ill inmates; direct and control inmates to ensure appropriate behavior in cells in the Detention Center area, during recreation and meals and while escorting inmates within the Detention Center premises; Calm nervous or agitated inmates and Detention Center visitors, and physically restrain unruly inmates and visitors as necessary; prepare inmates for transfer; including counseling and advising inmates on transfer rules and regulations, ensuring presence of inmates personal items and putting inmates into handcuffs or other restraining devices.
· Enters cells to ensure Detention Center rules are being observed; including searching inmates and their personal items for weapons and contraband articles and inspecting Detention Center equipment, materials, and facilities for signs of tampering; monitor and control Detention Center visitors, including verifying identity of visitor, purpose of visit, and eligibility of inmate to receive visitors.
· Direct and control inmates to ensure appropriate behavior when being transported outside the Detention Center facility, to court holding cells, other holding facilities, or to the hospital.
· Maintain and update records, logs, and periodic reports of Detention Center and inmate activities, including narrative reports, memorandum, and notes of incidents and offenses.
· Drive transport vehicle; transport inmates to jail/Department of Corrections facilities, Court, hospital, etc.; perform preventative maintenance on vehicle(s); clean/wash vehicle(s).
· Clean holding cells; perform related cleaning duties including laundering inmate clothing.
· Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years related experience and/or related training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
2. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation
3. Able to obtain CPR certification within one year of hire
4. Must successfully pass Detention, Taser, and mace certifications
5. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license and be insurable by City’s auto insurance provider
Pay: $17.34 - $19.50 per hour
