Shelter Specialist- Maclellan Shelter Families
2nd Shift, Monday – Saturday and Sunday 4:00 pm to 12:00 am shift.
Part-time, Hourly- Nonexempt
Designed to be a short-term emergency shelter, the Maclellan Shelter for Families serves as the
first stop for families (with children) to find themselves in a sudden situation of homelessness.
The shelter is not a destination but instead serves as a starting point toward permanent housing
and self-sufficiency.
Job Description
The Shelter Attendant's core responsibilities include upholding the procedures and values of the
shelter.
The Shelter Specialist is an essential part of the shelter team and will ensure the safe and
effective daily/nightly operation of the shelter while assisting families with immediate needs,
including performing intakes with new clients.
Essential Functions - Duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Supervision of shelter operations to ensure the following of all safety and operational
protocols as established by the Shelter Director
● Identify maintenance needs and completion of maintenance requests
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Coordination of volunteers during shift
● Ensuring uninterrupted shelter operation and oversight during shift
● Participation in ongoing training and shelter staff meetings
● Assist with shelter cleaning procedures and with laundry as needed (including linens,
towels, basic clean-up, and other light housekeeping responsibilities)
● Provide referrals to other programs (internal and external) to meet client needs
● other duties as assigned.

● Regular and predictable attendance
● Follows CHATT Foundation’s policies and procedures
Knowledge of:
● Be aware of basic principles and practices of service provision to families
experiencing homelessness, the homeless and MSF directly.
● Understand the effects of trauma, help MSF move towards a trauma-informed
environment, and understand how trauma can impact homelessness and poverty.
Ability to:
● Must be able to maintain very strict confidentiality and boundaries with participants.
● Must be highly collaborative and able to work as a team to problem solve.
● Communicate clearly and concisely with clients and staff with a particular focus on
verbal and written communication.
● Work cooperatively with diverse community partners, including agencies, service
providers and community groups.
● Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the
performance of required duties
● Work holidays as needed
Qualifications:
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
● Ability to communicate professionally and accurately, with attention to detail and
grammar, whether in writing, through email, on the telephone, or in person
● Regular and predictable attendance
● Demonstrated Commitment to and belief in the mission of the CHATT Foundation
● Successful Completion of background and drug screening

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
